E-commerce Profit Calculator

Calculate what an e-commerce order really earns. Enter the selling price and product cost, and optionally shipping, a payment processing fee and the ad cost per order.

Private by design · Entries and logos stay in this browser. Nothing is saved automatically.

Changes the currency symbol and number format only. Amounts are not converted.

Advanced assumptions (optional)

How to use the E-commerce Profit Calculator

  1. Enter the selling price and cost of goods sold.
  2. Open Advanced assumptions to add shipping, a payment fee percentage and ad cost per order.
  3. Select Calculate to see total costs, profit per order and margin.

Use the currency selector above the inputs to change the symbol. It changes the display only and does not convert amounts.

Profit after every order-level cost

Selling price minus product cost overstates profit, because shipping, payment fees and advertising also come out of each order.

This calculator subtracts each order-level cost you enter and shows the margin that remains.

How the calculation works

E-commerce Profit Per Order Calculator formula

Payment fee = Selling price × Fee percentage

Total costs = COGS + Shipping + Payment fee + Ad cost

Profit per order = Selling price − Total costs

  • Fee percentage is a percentage of the selling price.
  • Optional costs default to zero.

A negative profit is a loss on that order and is shown as such. The pie chart appears only when profit is not negative.

E-commerce Profit Per Order Calculator example

A 1,000 order with 400 COGS, 60 shipping, a 2% fee and 100 ad cost:

Example inputs
Selling price 1000
Cost of goods sold 400
Shipping cost 60
Payment processing fee 2%
Ad cost per order 100
Example results
Selling price 1000
Total costs 580
Profit per order 420
Profit margin 42%

Amounts are shown without a currency symbol because the arithmetic is identical in any currency; the currency selector only changes the symbol and number format. The 2% fee is 20, so total costs are 580.

Assumptions and limitations

Assumptions

  • Every order carries the same costs.
  • Fees are a flat percentage of the selling price.

Limitations and why results can differ

  • It does not include fixed overheads, returns or refunds.
  • Costs that vary per order need separate calculations.

Frequently asked questions

What is COGS?

Cost of goods sold: what you paid for or made the product being sold.

Are overheads included?

No. Only the order-level costs you enter are subtracted.

What if profit is negative?

It is shown as a loss. The chart is hidden because a loss has no meaningful profit slice.

How does this relate to break-even ROAS?

Your margin sets the return on ad spend you need. See the Break-Even ROAS Calculator.

Methodology

Inputs are validated as finite numbers within the ranges shown on the calculator, and division by zero is rejected. The result is computed directly from the formula on this page with no intermediate rounding beyond the stated display rounding.

The calculation runs in your browser and inputs are not sent to a server.
