How to Create a GST Invoice

A GST invoice records a taxable supply and the information used to calculate the amount due. FinBizTools can create an editable draft, but the issuer remains responsible for registration status, classification, tax treatment, numbering and compliance.
Start with the parties and invoice identity
Record the supplier’s name, address and GSTIN where applicable, together with the invoice number and issue date. Add the recipient information required for the transaction. Use a controlled numbering process rather than reusing numbers accidentally.
Describe the supply
List each good or service clearly. Depending on the supply and applicable rules, relevant information may include HSN or SAC, quantity and unit, description, gross value, discount and taxable value. Avoid vague descriptions that prevent the parties from understanding what was supplied.
Calculate tax and total
Apply the verified rate to the taxable value. Identify CGST and SGST/UTGST for an applicable intra-state supply or IGST for an applicable inter-state supply. Show the tax amounts and final invoice total clearly. The GST Calculator can check the arithmetic but not the legal treatment.
Review before issue
- Check supplier and recipient details.
- Confirm invoice number and date.
- Verify description, quantity, rate, discounts and taxable value.
- Confirm the GST rate, component and place-of-supply treatment.
- Check totals, payment details and any applicable reverse-charge indication.
Use the available resources

Numbering, dates and records
An invoice should be identifiable in the issuer’s records. Use a controlled numbering process and check the issue date, supply details and any transaction-specific timing rules. Do not reuse a number accidentally. Corrections, credit notes and cancellations can have separate requirements that a simple generator does not administer.
Customer and supply review
Check names, addresses and GSTINs where applicable. Describe goods or services clearly and verify quantity, unit, classification information, taxable value, discounts and the selected rate. Determine the place-of-supply treatment from current rules rather than from the customer name alone.
Before sharing the document
Recalculate line totals, tax components and the final amount; confirm payment details; and inspect the downloaded PDF. The generator does not submit data to GST systems, create an IRN or QR code, or independently validate compliance. Keep appropriate business records and obtain professional advice for transaction-specific requirements.
