How to use this template
Open the template and go to the ‘SIP Planner’ tab. In cell C5, enter your starting monthly SIP amount. In cell C6, enter your expected annual return (e.g. 12%). In cell C7, enter your investment tenure in years. In cell C8, enter your annual step-up percentage (e.g. 10% annual increase, or 0% for a fixed SIP). The summary cards and the 30-year schedule below update immediately with your projected corpus and wealth gain.
Formulas and methodology
Monthly SIP Year N = ROUND(Monthly SIP Year N−1 × (1 + Step-Up Rate), 0). Annual Deposit = Monthly SIP × 12. Cumulative Invested = SUM(Annual Deposits). Year-End Portfolio Value compounds the prior year balance at the annual rate plus mid-year annual deposit yields. Estimated Wealth Gain = Year-End Portfolio Value − Cumulative Invested.
Compatibility and file details
Format: Microsoft Excel OpenXML Spreadsheet (.xlsx). File size: Approximately 7 KB. Compatible with Microsoft Excel 2016+, Microsoft 365, Google Sheets, and LibreOffice Calc.
Frequently asked questions
Are the projected returns guaranteed?
No. Mutual fund investments are subject to market risks. Calculations represent hypothetical mathematical projections based on constant annual return assumptions.
Can I model a fixed SIP without annual increases?
Yes. Set the Annual Step-Up Increase (%) in cell C8 to 0% to evaluate a constant monthly contribution throughout your tenure.
Does this work in Google Sheets?
Yes. The workbook uses standard ROUND and SUM formulas that translate seamlessly into Google Sheets without errors.
