Markup Calculator

Calculate a price from markup or find markup from cost and price.

Private by design · Entries and logos stay in this browser. Nothing is saved automatically.

How it works

Enter positive cost and a markup percentage to find selling price. Switch to cost and selling price to calculate the markup already applied.

Formula and methodology

Selling price = cost × (1 + markup / 100). Profit = selling price − cost. Reverse markup (%) = profit ÷ cost × 100. Zero cost is rejected because percentage markup is undefined.

Example

Cost ₹80 with a 25% markup produces ₹100 selling price and ₹20 gross profit. The corresponding margin is 20%.

Assumptions and limits

Markup may be negative down to −100%, which gives a zero selling price. This is a pricing illustration, excluding unentered overheads and taxes.

Frequently asked questions

Can I enter a discount below cost?

Yes. A negative markup represents a selling price below cost, down to a zero selling price at −100%.

Does a 25% markup mean a 25% margin?

No. On cost ₹80 and price ₹100, markup is 25% but margin is 20%.
