AOV Calculator
Calculate average order value (AOV) from your total revenue and number of orders for the same period. AOV shows how much a typical order is worth.
Private by design · Entries and logos stay in this browser. Nothing is saved automatically.
Changes the currency symbol and number format only. Amounts are not converted.
How to use the AOV Calculator
- Enter total revenue for the period.
- Enter the number of orders in that same period.
- Select Calculate to see the average order value.
Use the currency selector above the inputs to change the symbol. It changes the display only and does not convert amounts.
What AOV tells you
Average order value is total revenue divided by the number of orders. It is a blended average of every order in the period.
AOV is often tracked alongside conversion rate, since raising either one increases revenue.
How the calculation works
AOV Calculator formula
AOV = Total revenue ÷ Number of orders
- Total revenue is revenue for the period.
- Number of orders is the count of orders in that same period.
Use the same period and the same definition of revenue (for example before or after refunds) for both figures.
AOV Calculator example
Revenue of 250,000 from 500 orders:
| Total revenue | 250000 |
|---|---|
| Number of orders | 500 |
| Total revenue | 250000 |
|---|---|
| Number of orders | 500 |
| Average order value (AOV) | 500 |
Amounts are shown without a currency symbol because the arithmetic is identical in any currency; the currency selector only changes the symbol and number format.
Assumptions and limitations
Assumptions
- Revenue and orders cover the same period and store.
- Every order counts equally, whatever its size.
Limitations and why results can differ
- A few very large orders can pull the average up and hide the typical order.
- It does not separate new customers from repeat customers.
Frequently asked questions
Should AOV include shipping and tax?
That depends on how you define revenue. Use the same definition consistently.
How can I raise AOV?
That is a business decision. The calculator only measures the current figure.
Is AOV the same as customer lifetime value?
No. AOV is per order. Lifetime value covers a customer’s value across many orders.
Should refunds be subtracted?
Use whichever revenue definition you track, but apply it consistently.
Methodology
Inputs are validated as finite numbers within the ranges shown on the calculator, and division by zero is rejected. The result is computed directly from the formula on this page with no intermediate rounding beyond the stated display rounding.
The calculation runs in your browser and inputs are not sent to a server.
